Who we are

The permanent staff of the Structural Composites Group (SC) is composed by six members. Several PhD and MSc students, as well as Post-Doctoral fellows and Researchers collaborating in on-going research projects actively contribute to the high quantity and quality of the research conducted in the two main research areas of SC: Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC); Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) materials for the structural strengthening and rehabilitation. The researchers find in the SC the necessary facilities to develop high quality experimental, numerical and analytical research in both main areas of SC. Since the creation of the SC, several experimental testing setups have been conceived and built, and numerical models for the nonlinear analysis of concrete and composites structures have been developed. This SC patrimony and research culture provide to the present and future researchers the necessary support to assure the research quality level self-imposed in the SC. As a result of the visibility of the carried out research, the industry regularly requests the SC to take part in applied research projects. Welcome to SC.

What we do

The Structural Composites (SC) Group has its main research focus on two areas: Fiber Reinforced Cement (FRC) based materials for the development of innovative and sustainable structures; Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) materials for the structural strengthening and rehabilitation and for the development of new high performance structural systems. Since 1996 the SC group has been carrying out experimental, analytical and numerical research in FRC and FRP areas. The SC has strong background on the development of constitutive models for the modeling of the behavior of concrete and composite structures, and their implementation in computer language programs.
